Starting mysql manager of pid file quit without updating fi

I had this problem while trying to brew upgrade on Mac OS X 10.7.5.Unfortunately mysql was also upgraded to 5.6.10 from 5.5.14. I decided to go back to my old setup and did a and My SQL works.[mysqld] port = 3306 socket = /tmp/skip-external-locking key_buffer_size = 16K pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/[mysqld_safe] log-error=/var/log/pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/The solution that worked for me was here: Changing some of my permissions seemed to do the trick.I'm running a Mid-2012 Macbook Air with OS X 10.8.2 and mysql was installed with homebrew.

It has ownership changed to mysql for the directory "data", but not to "var"; this is unusual because for years I have had to ensure that var directory was mysql writable.

When installing squeezeboxserver, which required My SQL 5 I found that some programs were required that were not included. postinst script returned status 1 ERROR: mysql5.postinst returned 1 It's all Greek to me. I get the same error, could someone publish the exact steps required to resolve this? I wrote a more detailed blog at rockydog./ wordpress/ that details the fix (at least how it worked for me).

busybox gconv-modules libuclibc ncursesw libgd Some of these may have been requirements for squeezeboxserver, and not My SQL. Unfortunately after installing all the above My SQL5 still won't start. Configuring mysql5 /opt/etc/init.d/S70mysqld: line 276: /bin/hostname: not found /opt/etc/init.d/S70mysqld: line 285: /bin/hostname: not found Starting My SQL… I'm a newbie when it comes to this, I don't appear to have either /bin/hostname or /opt/bin/hostname to change to. In summary: Install ipkg packages ncursesw and libuclibc . Edit (“/opt/etc/my.cnf”) and add the following two lines user = root data dir = /opt/var/lib/ Edit S70mysqld (“/opt/etc/init.d/S70mysqld” ) and add "/opt" to the path prior to "/bin/hostname`.pid" on lines 270 and 279.

This is the second step and before that we have to stop the server and set the parameter in innodb_data_home_dir = innodb_data_file_path = /dev/sdaGnewraw;/dev/sda1:5Gnewraw and when i restart the server it is giving error Starting My SQL.
